Margarita, Margarita, oh how sweet thy nectar is. No matter if you are pale as the absinthe fairy or bright blue like the ocean waves you seem to be an everpresent guest at gatherings. Bringing friends together – new, old, and those yet to be.
Margarita, Margarita, how many conversations have you been a partner of? How many times have you given strength to the timid soul wanting to talk to the lone imbiber at the end of the bar? How many times have you eased the pain of life? How many times have you helped seal a business deal?
Margarita, Margarita, cheers to you today as we celebrate you in all your blended, shaken, and colorful forms poured into glasses edged with crystals of salt or sparkles of sugar. We celebrate your diversity of flavor and color. We celebrate your ability to give strength, to ease pain, to dry tears, and to seal deals.
There are many thoughts and theory’s about how the margarita came to existence. Some conjecture that it was named after Dallas socialite Margarita Sames in 1948. Others claim that the margarita recipe was shaken up for a former Broadway dancer by the name of Marjorie King in 1938. Still others claim this iconic drink was brought to life in Galveston, Texas named after singer Peggy Margaret Lee.
We may never know the true origin behind the margarita, but one thing is for certain – whether blended or shaken, dusted with salt or sugar – there is nothing quite as lovely as sipping a margarita on a beach with your toes in the sand.
Do you have a ‘best margarita recipe ever’ you would like to share? If not, try this simple margarita recipe to get you started concocting your own.
Margarita’s are fun cocktails to dress the glass up with colorful salts, sugars, little paper umbrellas, or even soft gummy candies. Try this variation when you are dreaming of blue ocean water tickling your toes on a beach.
Run the lime wedge around the edge of the glass and then dip the glass in the sugar (or salt). Push the lime wedge onto the edge of the glass for decoration.
Combine the rest of the ingredients in a bartenders shaker. Make sure the lid and cap are on the shaker BEFORE you start shaking – trust me on this one.
Shake for approximately one minute.
Pour the chilled concoction into the waiting margarita glass and enjoy.
